Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
College is often called "the best years of your life," but for many, it feels like an endless loop of performance, pressure, and old patterns. Whether you're navigating the heavy fog of academic burnout, the "lonely-but-smothered" cycle of new relationships, or a major life transition that has left you feeling completely ungrounded, I’m here to help you find your footing. I believe you shouldn’t have to "fix" who you are—especially your sensitivity. Instead, we’ll work on learning how to use it as your greatest compass. How We Work Together With over 23 years of experience, I’ve learned that the most powerful tool in the room is a real, authentic connection. I use a relational, mind-body approach—blending ACT and CBT—to help you name the barriers in your way and retire the survival patterns (like people-pleasing, perfectionism, or masking) that no longer serve you. I’m known for putting students at ease quickly; our first session isn't a "clinical intake," it's a grounded partnership. Specialized Support for Students: Neurodivergence & Burnout: Strategies for ADHD/Autistic students to manage executive function without the "perfectionism" spiral. LGBTQ+ Identity: A safe, affirming space to explore your identity and navigate coming out or relationship transitions. Relationship & Family Cycles: Breaking free from toxic patterns and setting healthy boundaries. Trauma & Identity: Healing from the past while figuring out who you are today. Addiction & Recovery: Navigating campus culture while staying true to your sobriety or harm-reduction goals. The Highly Sensitive Student (HSP): Tools for when the world (and the dorms) feels too loud or overwhelming. Mind-Body Wellness: Supporting students with Alopecia or autoimmune disorders through the emotional toll of chronic illness. Beyond the Office I am a firm believer in the healing power of the outdoors. When I’m not in the office, you’ll usually find me hiking with my dog and finding new adventures in the fresh air. Ready to start a chapter that actually belongs to you? Reach out and let’s see if we’re a good fit.

I am a queer cis-woman of color, and an immigrant from Denmark and Comoros. I am passionate about fiercely challenging systemic oppression and empowering people to reclaim their innate power. As a somatic and social justice psychotherapist, I guide and empower clients in the discovery and celebration of your authentic self. Through both my work and my own lived experience, I have developed a critical awareness of the relationship between trauma and oppression. In the therapy room, you are able to gain bodily awareness and skills on how you can move more fluidly in expressing and embodying you own unapologetic truth that is too often silenced by society I specialize working with marginalized populations, including people of color, QTPOC, bilingual individuals, immigrants, queer people, and trans and gender non-conforming individuals. As a multilingual psychotherapist, I provide counseling in English, Spanish, French and Danish. I provide both in-person and video sessions. I love working with college students. You are at an exciting pivot point in your life. Adjusting to college is both exciting and daunting. You may be dealing with social, cultural and academic stress as you adjust to a new environment. You may begin to look at your childhood and teen years from a new perspective. You may be thinking about the life you want to design for yourself moving forward, and the impact you want to make in the world. I have worked with student athletes and others juggling the demands of college life. In Colorado Springs, I work with students from Colorado College, UCCS, and Pikes Peak State College. I am happy to work with students from UC Boulder and Colorado School of Mines via Telehealth. I believe everyone has the capacity to heal and thrive, and sort out what's distressing or confusing you, including academic stress, romantic relationships, family relationships, friendships, and your relationship with yourself. I offer ways to understand and manage anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity issues. I am client-centered and take a holistic biopsychosocial approach. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and I use evidence-based practices and the latest scientific research to help you achieve relief, clarity, and joy.
At Grand Valley Wellness, we want to help you change your life. Therapy doesn't have to be lifelong - it can be short-term or long-term. The best part is that YOU get to decide.
My practice primarily serves LGBTQ+, queer, trans, and gender-expansive adults, alongside individuals navigating complex trauma, relational patterns, and perinatal mental health concerns. My clinical approach is supportive, affirming, trauma-informed, and grounded in relational and attachment-based frameworks. I integrate an awareness of how systems of power, identity, and lived experience shape mental health, and I strive to hold both individual healing and broader context in view. I have specialized focus in complex trauma, including childhood trauma, relational trauma, and attachment wounds. Many of my clients are exploring identity development, processing experiences of minority stress, or seeking a therapeutic space where they can fully express their gender and sexual identities without needing to justify or defend them. I also provide affirming care for individuals during pregnancy, postpartum transitions, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and other reproductive experiences. I am particularly mindful of the unique emotional and systemic considerations that may arise for LGBTQ+ individuals and families during these periods. While no therapeutic space can be perfectly free from the impact of broader social forces, I am deeply committed to creating a therapy environment that feels brave, collaborative, and respectful. I engage in ongoing consultation, supervision, and continuing education to support culturally responsive and identity-affirming care. My work is guided by trauma-informed principles, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and respect for client autonomy and self-determination. I view therapy as a collaborative process where clients are supported in deepening self-understanding, strengthening resilience, and moving toward meaningful change.

I have worked in mental health since 2011 with a wide range of people. I mostly help people who are experiencing the effects of stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma, among other things. I focus on building a quality relationship with people I work with, where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I also incorporate approaches that draw on recent neuroscience research in order to provide tools and resources that can be used in the present moment, while we find ways of addressing underlying causes and creating long term change. Many people who find their way to me have already been in therapy and are looking for something a little different from traditional "talk therapy". I am committed to multiculturalism and am a LGBTQ+ ally. A few modalities I employ are EMDR, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Gottman Institute, Experiential/Somatic/Gestalt (including parts work). Please feel free to explore the website, or reach out if you have any questions. Thank you.
As an art therapist, I utilize the creative process as a means of self-exploration, stress relief, and emotional healing, particularly for individuals who find it difficult to articulate their feelings or experiences in words. With collaboration, connection, and creation an individual can navigate life’s challenges, explore their meaning of self, and find empowerment in the therapeutic process. Whether addressing specific mental health issues, processing trauma, or simply improving emotional health, art therapy can be a powerful tool in promoting overall wellbeing. I have worked with individuals who live with anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, and more. I currently have availability in the late mornings and afternoons. Please reach out if you would like to connect or if you have any questions!

Who I work with: - People who are fired up and ready to do this - “Refugees” from conventional eating disorder treatment who are ready to finally get to the root of the issue - Folks with some sass, fire, and rebelliousness (with a soft and sensitive core) - Quirky go-getters, nerds and misfits, and outsiders with undercover witchy tendencies - People who want better relationships, emotional resiliency skills, and a healthier relationship with food and their body - People who’ve tried talk therapy and have an inkling there’s something more: a deeper, more soulful connection to themselves and all their inner parts. *I welcome folks of all identities and sizes How I work: Is it frustrating for you when people tell you to “just let it go” or “be kinder to yourself”? As if there were some switch you could flip…if you just weren’t so stubborn / clueless / goofy. First up: there is no such switch. (If there were, someone would have patented it by now). Second up: suggestions like this, no matter how well-intentioned, almost never work. They can also leave us feeling frustrated and like failures. Self-compassion and emotional healing are trickier than most people (or cutesy magnets) would have you believe. Myth: Just talk through why you feel this way and you problem will vanish. Truth: Real healing takes more than head-knowing. It’s a whole-bodied affair. This is why typical talk therapy - where you come in, sit on a couch, share how you feel - often falls short. You leave feeling like "ok, I feel a little better, but now what?" So I work a little differently. Still talk, still insight, but more connection to body, intuition, and emotions. We get beyond the "why" and get to the actual "how" of real change. You can read more about my approach at www.stephaniesmallhealth.com. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and nutritionist. I received my BA from Yale University, my MSW from Smith College for Social work, and certificates in Holistic Nutrition Education and Mental Health Nutrition from Bauman College and the Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. I ran the nutrition program at a substance abuse recovery center in Denver for two years and have trained in trauma therapy, internal parts work, somatic therapies, and more. I currently maintain a private practice online and in Boulder and Denver, CO, write for national and local publications, consult for mental health agencies and substance abuse recovery centers, and speak at live events.
I work with many college students who are needing some support, guidance, and tools that can help them navigate their current life situation. I personally understand, from my own experience at college, some of the challenges and difficulties that can arise, so there is a lot of compassion and understanding for what you may be experiencing. I also have experience working with local students at CU. College can be exciting, fresh, and new. At the same, it puts us in completely new surroundings and situations. Overwhelm is natural. To any student who is considering therapy, I hope you know that overwhelm doesn't mean that something has gone wrong. It's normal when there are so many big changes taking place. My job is primarily to listen to you, and to really try to understand things from your perspective. This in itself is quite relieving: to be heard, seen, and understood. There's no reason for you to feel completely alone and isolated in your experience. Above all, you will find a supportive space in my practice for you to be at ease and be yourself. There are many wonderful counselors out there, and many not-so-good ones. My strong advice to you is to find a therapist who you really like, and don't stop looking for one until you find them. Before and during my own college experience, I had visited several counselors who I didn't have a real connection with. It wasn't until I was 22 that I found a counselor who I really connected with. Counseling should be a very positive experience. It is a huge resource in life. Trust yourself about what feels good to you - and go for it!

A therapy session with me always starts with you. I want you to feel safe and comfortable as you share your situation. While making that first call to a therapist is difficult, most people feel great relief once they do. My main focus is Women in College, processing their challenges and moving toward who they want to become. My goal for you, is to help you find relief quickly. I work with people facing a variety of challenges, including: Anxiety, Life Transitions, Stress, Conflict, Trauma and Childhood Trauma. I offer support, encouragement, and guidance. Therapy is not about living a stress-free life, but rather learning how to navigate that stress with confidence and skill. The work we do is interactive, and I will encourage you to explore options, opportunities and choices. We will work together to help you create a sense of calm, self-assurance and stability as you navigate your life and the issues that have brought you in to meet with me. In my experience, clients I have done EMDR therapy with have had quicker, more effective and longer lasting results than traditional talk therapy. Welcome! I work with teens and young adults ages 16+ who are in all phases of the college/university process. My specialty is transition and the process of discovering who you are now that you are in college. This includes how to manage all the ups and downs of relationships, academics, family, and work. I use humor and a direct, warm approach along with evidence based techniques such as CBT, DBT, and Internal Family Systems to help you feel genuinely understood while you gain the tools you need to thrive. I see clients in person in Boulder, CO as well as via secure video sessions. I’m excited to meet you.
Hi there, if you've been struggling with difficult thoughts and feelings it's possible that they've felt like barriers to doing the things that are important to you. Therapy can help by first identifying what these barriers are, and making a plan for getting you back to activities that create meaning in your life. I provide individual psychotherapy in a warm, encouraging, and collaborative style. I use a blend of techniques that are backed by research to ensure you're getting the best care possible. If you're unsure about therapy please contact me for a free consultation call to see if we might be a good fit. From there if we decide to work together we can begin treatment by identifying what your struggle has been, and how we can get you back to living the life you want. I look forward to speaking with you soon!
