Really, sports can be a great metaphor for life. They have the power to be more than just a game, a match, a meet, or an event; they are able to teach us things we never thought we needed to know. We often learn and grow through the games we love. As players in the game of life, we often get hit with curve balls. We can suffer from lows and rejoice in the highs. There are elements of the game we can control and others that we just have to be present for and ride out for a while. I believe in a collaborative and strengths-based approach to therapy because no one knows you better than yourself. My goal is to empower each client to draw on their strengths in order to navigate through the challenges one may face in the game of life. I strive to foster a holistic environment in an effort to see challenges from all angles. Often, what affects us “off the field” translates to the work we do on it.
One of my favorite quotes, “Change your thoughts and you can change your world” by Norman Vincent Peale, really inspires me to help clients realize hope for the future. The change comes from you, and we can start that process within the therapy room. Each person is unique in their own way, and because of this, they may need a unique approach to therapy. I look at the therapeutic relationship as a team: we can collaborate together to work on any issues that may be troublesome. You are the expert on your life, and I am here to help you navigate that life by providing a non-judgmental space, helping you to create change from within. I view therapy through a person-centered lens while using interventions pulled from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and solution-focused therapy (SFBT).
