Therapists for college students near 10003
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with expertise in treating trauma, anxiety, substance use problems, and insomnia. I also work with people experiencing life transitions, academic stress, grief, relationship difficulties, and health-related stress. I love working with students and young adults. I have extensive experience working with individuals of diverse cultural, racial, gender, and sexual identities, and I am committed to providing affirming, anti-oppressive care for all clients. No two individuals are the same, so I work with each client to understand their goals and needs for treatment. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with integration of other evidence-based methods, such as mindfulness, values, and emotion-focused work. If appropriate to your needs, I can offer specialized types of therapy, including Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, CBT for Insomnia, CBT for Substance Use Disorders, and exposure therapy for anxiety disorders. I approach therapy with compassion, authenticity, and (when appropriate) a sense of humor. I see therapy as a collaborative relationship, rather than one of passive listening. If my approach sounds like a good match for you, let’s talk!
College life can be exciting, but it also comes with a lot (academic pressure, life transitions, relationship challenges, etc.) If you’re struggling with negative thoughts, anxiety, or just feeling stuck, you're not alone. I work with college students through the unique stressors and experiences that come with this chapter of life. Whether you’re feeling anxious, burned out, dealing with self-doubt, or just want support with everyday life, I’m here to support you through it all. We can work together to build healthier habits, understand your emotions better, and create more balance in your life. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to what you need. I’m here to really listen, support you, and guide you through your next steps—all in a space that’s supportive, open, and judgment-free. If you’re ready to take the next step towards change, I’m here when you’re ready.
I combine compassionate care with evidence-based therapies to enable you to set and meet goals, feel better, and live the life you want and deserve. My goal is to provide you with a caring, comfortable, and supportive environment to discuss your concerns and help you develop new skills to improve your quality of life. Some of my clients only require a few sessions while others may benefit from longer-term counseling. I offer video therapy to patients using a secure video chat platform. This allows you to see a therapist from the comfort and convenience of your own home. When I'm not seeing patients, I am a professor at Rutgers. My specialties include: depression, anxiety, insomnia, bereavement, difficulties adjusting to new life circumstances (e.g., break ups, new jobs, graduation, medical diagnoses), stress related to caregiving, and behavioral management of medical issues. I am results-oriented -- together we will track your progress to ensure that therapy is actually having a positive effect on your life. If you're thinking about therapy, reach out to me and we can chat to see if I'd be a good fit for you.

Firstly, I want to say I am glad you are here! My name is Olivia and I am currently a second-year Master’s student at Montclair State University. I previously got my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology which opened my eyes to the importance of mental health. As your therapist-in-training, I am committed to providing a compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can feel safe to express yourself, emotions, and inner thoughts. Vulnerability can be scary, which is why it is important that we work at a pace that is best for you. I take an empathetic approach, actively listening to your current experiences and struggles, while creating plans that would be most effective for your individual needs and goals. Our sessions together will be focused around techniques and tools that would be useful for your overall growth, including using a strengths based approach, emotional regulation techniques, incorporating healthy coping mechanisms, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation. It is my role as your therapist, to help guide and support you in your journey towards healing and self-discovery. I look forward to working with you! You may feel stuck, uncertain about yourself, overwhelmed by life transitions, or carrying the weight of the past. These moments hold emotional truths that deserve to be seen, heard, and understood. When we meet them with care and curiosity, they can become powerful entry points to deeper self-discovery and lasting self-compassion. The process of turning inward, increasing self-awareness and self-kindness, can be complex, but it often opens the door to meaningful growth. My role is to offer a safe, judgment-free space where this kind of exploration can unfold. I feel honored to walk alongside individuals as they reconnect with the parts of themselves that may feel lost, silenced, or in conflict. My approach is person-centered and psychodynamic, grounded in empathy and with a deep respect for your unique story. Together, we’ll explore your inner world at a pace that feels right for you. Individuals often share that they feel at ease in our sessions, able to speak freely, even when the emotions are difficult to name. Therapy with me is a collaborative process, grounded in trust, where you can feel empowered to take steps that align with your values. If you're ready to begin, or even just curious, I welcome you to reach out!
I am a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) and licensed creative arts therapist (LCAT). I work from a foundation of person-centered and psychodynamic psychotherapy and emphasize trauma informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and culturally responsive care. My work focuses on working collaboratively with clients to develop caring and compassionate relationships in a space of safety and healing. I utilize traditional talk therapy as well as working through recorded music, singing, improvisational music-making and instrument play to encourage creativity and enhance joy. I have received advanced training in trauma and the arts from Kint Institute, had writing focused on several professional publications, and presented at national and regional conferences. Most recently, I was the co-author of a chapter in Creative Arts Therapies and the LGBTQ Community. I also run workshops and individual sessions utilizing singing as a form of wellness, and supportive groups for body neutrality/fat positivity.
I specialize in working with people who are experiencing life transitions, such as marriage, divorce, parenting, career, loss of a loved one, aging, and existential anxiety. Transitions can be stressful because it means you need to make changes in how you are living your life. I work with people who are at a crossroads of important decisions or who are having difficulties navigating and adjusting to a change in life circumstances. Going in a direction you have not gone before can bring up feelings of fear, doubt, and uncertainty. If you are trying to figure out what you want from your life, I will provide a safe and nonjudgmental place where we can explore your emotions, challenges, choices and possible consequences, and best approaches to move forward. Going through the process of taking stock of your life can often lead you to a new beginning which opens up new possibilities. With every life transition, we need to let go of a past way of thinking or being and replace it with something new. Together we can create a path towards change and healing.

Hello, I have a general psychotherapy practice that is focused on helping people with topics that are relevant to college and graduate school students. The following are some of the issues that clients share with me. Managing the transition from living at home to being at school. Feeling successful in classes and in social life. Handling relationships such as with family and romantic partners. Preparing to leave school for a career. And, staying on top of mental well-being. Do any of these topics resonate with you? If so, great! If not and you want to see if I can be of help anyway, then feel free to reach out. Please contact me by phone or by email to set-up a moment when we can initially discuss your interest in therapy.
