My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, holistic and individualized, meeting you where you are. I am passionate about the process of therapy and will help you to develop insight, identify and reach your goals and enhance wellness. I specialize in treating couples and individuals coping with mental health and relationship concerns. I have over fifteen years of psychotherapy experience working with individuals, couples and families utilizing a combination of DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Psychodynamic and Relational techniques among other modalities. With over 25 years of clinical practice as a psychotherapist, I bring an interactive, supportive, and non-judgemental approach to counseling. Sessions are dedicated to understanding where you are in life, what your experiences have been, and overcoming the obstacles that prevent you from having a more fulfilling life. I provide clients with better tools for processing, communicating, and establishing a framework for choosing healthier options. Sessions are personal and engaging, and help improve outlook and esteem. Many of my Articles about relationships and other subjects can be found on my website lesliefabianlcsw.com
People often come to a therapist because they want to talk about being anxious, being lonely, feeling depressed, having difficulty in relationships, or having a hard time taking care of themselves and others. I aim to help people to reduce symptoms (e.g., anxiety) and, more generally, to engage in personal growth and to foster a more connected, meaningful life. I will work with you to help you cope more effectively with life stressors; in doing so, I focus on your values, strengths, and potential. I have specialized training in working with individuals with chronic illness and/or eating and weight-related problems, including adolescents, college students, and adults. I completed my clinical training at Yale University and at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. I am currently a Lecturer at Princeton University and the Supervising Psychologist at the Princeton Center for Eating Disorders. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all been challenged in our relationships, our work, our empathy, and our resilience. I aim to help others navigate associated feelings of loneliness, worry, anger, and sadness, and I work to help people adapt to changing and uncertain times. My practice is telehealth-only; I am able to see patients in RI, CT, NY, FL, and NJ.
Together, we will explore the challenges you experience and build new skills to improve quality of life. I have several years of experience with college/adult populations and student-athletes. I use a Holistic approach for treatment that emphasizes CBT and DBT to increase success when coping with stress. When these skills are built, I favor utilizing IFST to embrace all aspects of who you are and learn how each of those aspects can be used for you to become fullest version of yourself!
I specialize in providing compassionate and effective therapy for adolescents and young adults facing a range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, executive functioning concerns, life transitions, and attachment and relationship issues. With a wealth of experience as a pediatric and adult medical social worker at a leading NYC hospital, I bring expertise in counseling individuals and families dealing with chronic medical conditions, grief, and loss. My unique professional background with individuals across the lifespan has afforded me a practical understanding of psychosocial development and enriched my humanistic approach to care. In my therapy practice, I am dedicated to fostering a supportive environment that addresses the specific needs of each individual, promoting growth, resilience, and overall well-being.
