Therapists for college students near Portland State University
I am passionate about supporting individuals across the lifespan, including adolescents, teens, adults, families, and LGBTQIA+ clients. My areas of practice include life transitions, stress and anxiety management, communication, self-esteem, empowerment, and the intersection of faith/spirituality with mental health. I use a variety of interventions tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. From emotional-focused therapy to family systems approaches, mindfulness, and art and sandtray therapy, I am dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for individuals and families to explore their identities, navigate life transitions, and cultivate resilience. I would love to connect with you to see how we can partner together to support you in your mental health journey and through what life throws at us. Please reach out when you are ready.
Some of my specialty areas include working with clients who have experienced attachment trauma in their families of origin and have struggled with codependency or self-worth wounds. I frequently work with queer clients and with those who are questioning or exploring meaning and purpose relative to their larger societal or spiritual life, particularly those who find themselves outside the mainstream in their sexuality, beliefs, or social values. I provide assistance with communications, boundary-setting and interpersonal difficulties and focus on depth and narrative work with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy framing, including present-moment and somatic emphasis of emotional experience.
It is my belief that deeply understanding yourself and being deeply understood go hand-in-hand with healing. In our work together, I will support you in exploring your inner world, your relationships, and your history. I am guided by psychodynamic theory, while also being relational in my approach. This means that I aim to be spacious enough for you to vulnerably and bravely explore, and relational enough for you to feel safe to do-so. The people I work with often struggle with self-esteem, relationships, identity, communication, depression, and anxiety. No matter the concern you bring, we will work together to make sense of what is going on for you, and move you toward feeling better. I am able to work with you via Telehealth in Oregon and Washington, and in-person at my office on NE Alberta in Portland.

Often our first response to misfortune is to fight against it. While we may have skillful ways of doing this, our efforts nevertheless become futile and disconnect us from others. Our energy gets bound up, we get stuck in elusive cycles. However, our truths are complex and deserve to be recognized. I provide a focused and understanding space that supports you opening to your own aliveness and your voice. I bring my full attention, my honest feeling, and I will share what I see will help you. In a setting of mutual respect and trust, and with your active participation, I will encourage and challenge you to take risks to be more honest and vulnerable with yourself and in your relationships. The result is often a more comfortable, effective and empowered sense of self from which one can thrive. I offer individual therapy to adults who are interested in exploring one's relationship with oneself, including through dreams and creative process. I have a special interest in working with anxiety, depression, grief and self-esteem.

I see counseling or therapy as an active, collaborative process. I consider it an honor to go on that journey with clients and build a working relationship focused on understanding the process of change and growth, whatever the context and conditions affecting it. I believe we can learn how to best understand our personal situation from a place of acceptance and gratitude, and how to make the most skillful decisions to best enable us to utilize a sense of purpose and maintain appreciation of ourselves and the world around us. I believe in a client centered approach and utilize various treatment modalities to best serve each one.
I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and I don't take myself too seriously. The work? Absolutely. But I've found that people open up more when the clinic doesn't feel like a courtroom. I see patients of al ages dealing with ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, hormone issues, and weight. If you're dragging through your days, can't focus, can't sleep, or just feel like something's been off for a while, that's exactly the stuff I work with. I'm direct. I'll tell you what I'm seeing and what I think we should do about it. But I'm also not here to lecture you or make you feel like a case study. You're a person, not a diagnosis. I want to know what's actually going on in your life, not just what boxes you check on an intake form. Also, I'm told I'm funny. Results may vary.
