Therapists for college students near Pittsburgh, PA
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 15 years of experience helping people develop insight, knowledge and self-compassion. I specialize in treating anxiety, trauma, substance use, relationship conflict and grief. I am a national consultant for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders, certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Dual Recovery and skilled in therapies for those with abuse histories (e.g., STAIR, Seeking Safety). My doctoral training in cognitive neuroscience laid the foundation for my understanding of thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Together we will learn how your specific life experiences shape your biology to make you the person you are today. With this understanding we can find tools to reduce suffering and increase meaning in your life. Above all else, I value the human relationship. I believe my most important skill is helping people feel comfortable and build trust in the therapeutic alliance. Please reach out so you can tell me about yourself and your needs.
Sometimes life is difficult to navigate and it is hard to understand why. Having an objective person who can offer compassionate insight can help to work through areas of your life that keep you from enjoying and living the life you wish for. Manifest Psychotherapy & Wellness is a group practice that offers support for difficulties that come with life transitions, anxiety/depression, trauma, grief & loss, LGBTQ related issues, and relationship issues. If you are experiencing hardship or you just need a place to process life in a supportive environment, we are here to help. We offer two main types of therapy, Talk therapy and EMDR Therapy which is used to process things like blocking beliefs, fears, and difficult experiences that interfere enjoyment and satisfaction of life. Vince and Tara are both EMDRIA trained EMDR therapists and are trauma informed. Our practice is also an ally of the LGBTQ community.

I work with individuals 18 years old and above who are struggling with depression or anxiety. I can support you to change behaviors to feel better, change patterns of thinking to improve your feelings, develop closer and more satisfying relationships, and much more. I use approaches that have been shown to be effective such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. As a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, I conducted research specific to the mental health of teenagers. I also have extensive experience working with LGBT individuals. Our first meeting would be a chance for me to really understand why you want therapy, for us to develop goals together (Note: My clients often begin developing goals by thinking about "If we are successful working together in therapy, how would you and your life be different?"), and for you to determine if therapy with me is a "good fit."
Welcome! I enjoy working collaboratively with folks to identify new coping skills, process difficult emotions, memories, and thoughts. My clients often are adolescents or young adults seeking assistance with social anxiety, stressful life transitions, depression, gender identity, sexuality, relationship and/or family conflicts.
I provide services to people with a broad spectrum of problems. My areas of specialty are trauma, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders, or long-term ways of relating to self and others that do not seem to be working well.

At this moment, you face one of the most important choices of your life: Is this the moment you closed your browser and settled for what you have? Or is this the moment you reached out for therapy and reclaimed your life? My approach to therapy focuses on developing a positive vision for your life. You can’t just wish for the suffering to end. You need to be bolder. What becomes possible when the suffering ends - what will it mean for you to live a good life? Many struggle with this question. They think they know what they want, but in reality they want what someone else wanted for them. That is why my approach focuses on understanding your true self - your style of perceiving your environment, interacting with the world, and making decisions. As we discover your true self, we will also work on recognizing the existential choices you face as part of the change process and identifying how you can make those choices in alignment with your core values. You have one precious, beautiful, wild life. With every passing moment, that life is getting shorter. You’ve lost too much time to suffering already. If you are ready to change, reach out to me. I am ready to walk with you every step of the way.
