Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
My name is Julie Ohana. I have been practicing for 20+ years. It brings me great joy to be able to help people live their best lives. The clients that I typically work with are clients that are ready to make life changes. Clients who recognize their areas of struggle; depression, anxiety, relationship challenges or adjusting to a new experience or situation. My clients are looking for someone to be understanding and supportive but also someone who is able to push you to try new tools and practice the skills we talk about in our sessions together. My clients are open minded and willing to think outside the box.

The years of your twenties can be a time of growth and change. It also is a time filled with feelings of self-doubt, loneliness, and stress. You are being faced with challenges that didn't exist for your parents at your age. Now more than ever adolescents and young adults ages 13 and up are experiencing increasing symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and difficulties with relationships. Times are not what they used to be and you deserve to be heard. Your opinions and feelings matter! You have worth and your voice is valued. If judgment from others didn't exist, what goals and dreams would you reach for I am with you on this journey, to discover your strengths, empower your soul, uncovering the passion within you. I provide a safe and empathetic environment that utilizes skills focusing on regulating emotions, improving relationships, cognitive distortions, while also incorporating strengths to increase confidence and true acceptance of self. When I was in my twenties, rather than feeling possibilities were endless, I struggled with feeling lost and alone. This period represented inadequacy and defeat. They were the most challenging years in my life. Through the battle with myself, I discovered my passion and ability to truly relate and understand this age group. We help people understand how trauma affects them as a whole person and work with them to reunify their thoughts, emotions, and body. We have advanced training that can offer symptom relief and a path out of feeling hopeless. The good news is that with time and focus, most people can become symptom-free and manage difficulties from a place of inner strength. Our counselors have advanced training on how the brain and body respond to and hold onto the effects of trauma. Our team understands how trauma can have a lasting impact on people’s perspective, relationships, life story, daily functioning and how its effects can lead to feelings of extreme depression and anxiety as well as being misunderstood by others.

Dr. Kennedy-Ball graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology in 2014. Though her academic focus was primarily on treatment for children and adolescents, her professional experiences have allotted her the opportunities to work with vast populations (children, adolescents, teens, adults, and geriatrics) suffering from various disorders (Mood Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Neurocognitive Disorders, etc.). She has practiced in several settings including, outpatient, inpatient, community mental health, and residential treatment utilizing individual, family, and group therapy modalities. As a clinician, she focuses on collaborative and client centered treatment, as it allows for improvement in all facets of a client’s quality of life. Further, it fosters her ability to work holistically towards a client’s personal and family goals in unique and effective ways, as there is greater opportunity for therapeutic rapport and sense of personal control over challenges. She utilizes a cognitive behavioral approach, though has become more attune to hybrid interventions that best suit individual needs. She has been a Certified Brain Injury Specialist for several years and continues to strive towards serving this population.
Prior to Covid-19 I began working with telehealth and moved towards seeing everyone from their own home to remove the barrier of the commute. Additionally I see people living in rural areas for specific needs such as gender dysphoria. My experience includes addressing trauma/PTSD, substance use/abuse and recovery, anxiety, depression, transgender and gender dysphoria, and LGBTQ+ issues for adolescents and adults as an ally. You can easily request and schedule our first appointment or phone consultation by reaching out today - preferably by email.
Life is a journey of ups and downs, and we are not given a manual on how to live a happy and fulfilling life. We learn and grow from our past experiences and sometimes we get stuck and continue to make the same decisions until we acknowledge them so we can move on. When we know better, we tend to do better. We are all worthwhile individuals that are capable of change with a little help, encouragement, and empowerment. If life is not going the way you want it to, today is another day to make new choices and begin a path in a new direction. Are you willing to invest in yourself and make the changes needed to live your best life? I have experience working with Grief, Depression, Anxiety, Mental Health Disorders, Addictions, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, ADHD, Trauma, Sex Offense, Survivors, and PTSD. I see clients of all ages. I have experience in individual, family, and group therapy. Therapeutic settings include Behavioral Health, CMH, Jail, Home Visits, Foster Care, and Prison. I strongly believe that life is what we make it. We are not all placed in the world with perfect families and childhoods. Sometimes we need to do our own personal work to leave behind the things that are not working for us anymore. If you need someone to help you work things out, find out what you want out of life, and support you in the process I can help.
