Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
I specialize in working with students who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, who feel too "in their head", and who struggle to take control of their own thoughts. During our work together, we'll help you to feel more confident, more connected with the people around you, and more ready to take on life's challenges. Our sessions will be highly structured. We'll learn a meditative technique that will help you to disrupt patterns of rumination, helping you to feel more relaxed and clear-headed. At the end of our sessions, we'll reflect on takeaways and set intentions for our next session. Finally, we'll use screeners and regular check-ins to assess our progress over time. I've helped hundreds of clients overcome their anxiety and lead fuller, more meaningful lives. If you feel that my methods would help you, please reach out to schedule an intake session. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
I don’t look like what I have been through, and you don’t have to, either. There are times in our lives when we can’t see past our grief, trauma, passion, or desires. There is no shame in talking things out with a professional trained to help. We all walk a different path, but talking to someone can sometimes help us see the forest, not just the trees. My goal is to assist you in establishing healthy boundaries across various areas of your life, enhancing self-awareness, and embracing uncomfortable emotions like guilt and shame. I promote self-love and compassion, improve communication skills, and encourage you to face your fears and uncertainties.
Hi, I’m Matt. Often, getting started with a trusted therapist can be the most challenging hurdle to overcome. If you are here, then you have already taken your first step. I am proud of you, but more importantly, you should be proud of yourself. No matter where your journey takes you, know that you do not have to walk it alone. My goal is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all people. I also place great importance on developing a mutual sense of trust, as I believe trust is the key to building a healthy therapeutic relationship. I practice using a person-centered approach and an eclectic therapy model tailored to the individual as I believe that therapy needs to fit the individual’s unique needs and experiences. I completed my Master of Social Work degree at the University of Michigan. Through my internships and roles I have had the pleasure to work with many different populations, from children with an ASD diagnosis to at risk youth in residential settings to adults with an Intellectual Disability diagnosis to medically compromised adults, and more. I enjoy working with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, teens and young adults, and anyone else on a journey of self discovery and healing. I look forward to meeting you and walking alongside you in your therapeutic journey. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or if you would like to schedule an appointment. Areas of Interest: • 2SLGBTQIA+ • Sexual Identity • Gender Identity • Anxiety • Depression • Chronic Illness • Terminal Illness • Birth Trauma experienced by Birth Partners • Survivors of Suicide Loss • Life Changes

My approach begins with the understanding that connecting with one’s self and others is a pathway toward finding meaning and fulfillment. This pathway of connecting can become blocked by old emotional wounds or current relationship struggles. The partnership formed in the therapy relationship becomes the platform where healing broken connections may occur. This approach can help bring about lasting change by getting at the ‘root’ of the problem and bring relief from symptoms. Central to Chris’ approach is a concern for the role that faith and belief play in the life of the patient. My practice is shaped by his time training at Northwestern University, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago. My approach to working to help people change comes primarily from a model for psychotherapy where tending to feelings, symptoms, and patterns of relating becomes an important part of the healing process. In our first conversation, you can expect to briefly discuss your concerns as well as set up an initial meeting. The first meeting is where your concerns and history are better understood in order to offer specific recommendations and feedback.

You’re not alone if you’re realizing you might have OCD. Many people spend years stuck in their heads, battling intrusive thoughts, compulsions, hyper-specific fears, or chronic anxiety that pulls them away from the lives they want to live. I specialize in treating OCD and related disorders including perinatal and postpartum OCD, health anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, specific phobias, emetophobia, and coping with anxiety-induced hypertension. My practical, evidence-based approach provides tools to manage symptoms, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build lasting resilience so you can feel more in control in your daily life. OCD commits many crimes against its sufferers, but one of the cruelest is the hope it steals. You can feel better than you do now. This doesn’t have to be your life. I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients face fears, reduce compulsions, and reclaim a meaningful life. All sessions are online. Visit my website to schedule a consult. We will work together to pinpoint actionable steps and build coping skills, so you can begin to see positive changes right away. We believe that you are the master of your own life, and we believe that therapy is a joint process that we can navigate together. We cannot "fix" you or tell you what you "should" do. The journey is yours. We can be a support, and provide a safe space. We can guide you in learning and using tools which will allow you to better manage your symptoms and create and maintain healthy boundaries with yourself and others. The tools you learn and develop while you are going through your therapeutic journey are meant to also allow you to improve your ability to self-soothe, create and maintain healthier boundaries in your relationships, make decisions more effectively, and to better support, assert, and advocate for yourself once therapy ends. You are capable. Our mission is to provide more accessible services to underserved clients, particularly in the LGBTQIA+ community, folx with neurodivergence, racial and ethnic minorities, and for other underserved populations who lack access to in-person services, or lack access to counselors competent in these areas due to living in areas that are smaller, more rural, or more conservative.

Many mental health issues are related to a trauma response in the brain and body. Trauma is often conceptualized as one single event or experience that causes intense fear or distress. However, not all people who experience these kinds of events develop trauma symptoms, and many people who do experience trauma symptoms cannot identify a single event such as this. Another way to understand trauma symptoms is that they occur when an individual’s context overwhelms their nervous system’s ability to cope. This forces the nervous system to utilize strategies to try to bring the body back into balance. These strategies are usually useful or adaptive in the moment, but unhealthy and disruptive in the long run. The coping patterns can be related to addiction, disordered eating, the way we emotionally engage in relationships, or the chronic up-regulation (anxiety) or down-regulation (depression) of our nervous system. All are attempts to process the energy stored in the nervous system in response to stressors. Together we will utilize elements of mindfulness, somatic expression, Family Systems Theory, and Narrative therapy to develop new strategies to express emotion, regulate the nervous system, and communicate effectively with ourselves and with the people in our lives.
At MPTS, LLC, our mission is to create a strong relationship of trust with clients in a caring and judgement-free space, capitalizing on diverse experiences, specialties, and therapeutic strategies to meet the unique needs of the clients we serve. While our therapists have specialized knowledge and expertise, you and your therapist work together as a team to unpack your concerns and discover the ways to help you move toward your mental health goals. • Present-Time Focus While we understand exploring our past experiences helps to inform our future experiences, it is necessary to deliberately and purposefully be in our present. When we strive to live in the present moment, regardless of the discomfort or pain, we gain personal insight and strength to begin making change, as may be needed. • Empowerment Focus We believe that despite life’s challenges or even because of these challenges there is within each of us the potential for growth.
