Hello, I help people with gaining clarity and understanding of themselves, their future, purpose, and meaning. Additionally, I can be helpful dealing with challenges in the present that get in the way of getting where you want to go. Sometimes it can be difficult to connect with our brigheness or gold and it takes an exploration of what is dark or shadowy in our lives or in ourselves to get to a place where we can shine once again. I have experience with this as well. Please reach out to ask any questions or find out more about what I have to offer.

I am in private practice in the Princeton area, and work with individuals and couples. I truly enjoy working with young adults in their desire to learn more about themselves and grow emotionally. I assist clients in managing their depression, anxiety, and traumas. I also work to address client issues around relationship and family concerns, identity, life transitions, and immigration and acculturation needs. I offer in-person and telehealth sessions, and am licensed in the states of NJ, NY and also with Psypact (which allows me to work with clients in the states that are also members of Psypact)
me: In a relational, humanistic, and conversational style, and through an attachment-oriented lens, I am focused on harnessing the powerful dynamic of the therapeutic relationship, in order to help individuals locate within themselves a sense of meaning and purpose in the here and now. I am focused on developing each client’s ability to maintain internal validity and positive self-regard, in order to reduce self-shame, self-judgement, and self-harm. you: While I work with individual adults of all ages, most of my clients tend to be 25-45, and coming to therapy to work through a variety of human challenges and stressors often associated with complications that occur in the life-stage transitions from adolescence to early adulthood and early adulthood into middle age. For many of us, these life-stage transitions are often extended and/or delayed, leading to feelings of pscyho-emotional paralysis and “stuckness” in repeated patterns of behavior. My practice is also further specialized in working with performing artists and other creative/artistic professionals. The intersectionality of psycho-emotional health and creative identity/artistic process is an area of experience and particular interest to me. Having trained and worked professionally as an actor, prior to earning a master’s degree in clinical social work, I am deeply focused on using the shared language of artistic development to help other artists utilize the many tools and skills they’ve already developed for self-reflection and craft honing as artists, in order to help them create growth, change, and fulfillment in their personal and professional lives. Although many of my clients meet diagnostic criteria for depression, trauma, and anxiety, I aim to see people beyond the diagnosis and view them as the whole human beings they are. us: Together, we will have a meaningful relationship intended to support and foster your personal growth, resilience, healing, and ability to create internal validity, as well as meaning and purpose in the moment. Our relationship exists within the context and framework of weekly, or bi-weekly, 45-minute conversations, focused on examining all aspects of how your pscyho-emotional health and wellbeing correspond to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. No human is broken. We are all operating in the exact way the human system was intended to operate, by adapting; sometimes for the better, and other times to our own detriment. We are all the logical conclusion of the sum of our total experiences. Therefore, we will work jointly to piece together your narrative in a way that connects the total sum of your experiences to your present thoughts, feelings, and behavioral patterns, in order to learn to move forward, create change, and become the future self that is still yet unrealized.
I work with individuals across the adult lifespan. I find great joy serving college students and graduate students, and professionals in academia. I have spent many years working in university counseling centers including University of Iowa, UC Davis, CSUN, Indiana University and Cornell Health. My practice tends to focus on helping clients improve their relationship with self, others and the world around them. Some common themes in my practice are self-discovery; self-compassion; gratitude; boundary setting; clarifying values, needs and wants, and intention; mindset; health and wellness; mindfulness; and finding ways to live more present and fully.

College can be an amazing and exciting time while also being a time of a lot of transition and acclimating to new routines and responsibilities. I work with students to help ease the challenge that those transitions can bring whether you are on your own for the first time, or have decided to go back and get your degree at a later point in life. If you are experiencing stressors that are causing symptoms of anxiety or depression or are just looking for someone you can talk to please feel free to reach out. I'm happy to schedule a consultation if you are interested in learning more about my practice or to find out if we would be a good fit.
Everyone faces challenges in life. But those challenges can be amplified during life transitions, such as seeking higher education. Anxiety, worry, and frustration are common reactions. Some days it can be hard to find hope amidst the stress of just trying to get through the day. My therapeutic techniques are enacted with collaboration and compassion and individualized to your needs. I use many techniques commonly found in applied behavior analysis (ABA), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These can include goal setting, functional behavioral assessment, mindfulness skills, direct instruction, role-play and rehearsal, thought records, data review, journaling, and exploration of personal values. Together we will identify and use your strengths to make the changes that help you reach your goals.
It cannot be overstated what a big deal it is that you have begun to explore finding support for yourself. This first step is one of the hardest. I’d be honored to be a resource for you during this time, and accompany you as you grow and change. The majority of my clients are high achievers of all stripes, from Ivy League students to folks attending competitive conservatories and art schools. I was a performing artist (actor, singer, musician) for 12 years in New York City before changing careers, and I specialize in working with folks who have creative identities. Many of my clients are LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent, and most also find themselves in overfunctioning/underfunctioning dynamics in their relationships. My main therapy modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as somatic mindfulness-based therapy (Hakomi), and experiential therapy (gestalt). Basically this means that, in therapy, I will support you in getting more familiar with your internal system by helping you track what’s happening in your mind, your body, and between you and I (the therapist and the client). I’ll also guide you towards deepening your relationship with the different “parts” of your system, learning their agendas and desires, which sometimes produce inner conflicts and create stuckness. It’s well-known that being mindful of your body and breath is a great way to reduce stress, and using this practice as real situations arise in therapy will give you a practical way to use it in your day-to-day. As you get to know your system better, you will build greater trust within yourself, allowing for stuck parts to shift and for real lasting change to occur. If you’ve been in therapy before and it just felt like venting, IFS will be different. Pro tip: the research suggests that the therapy modality you use is less important than a trusting relationship with your therapist as far as positive therapy outcomes (though I will happily talk IFS theory for days). Do your best to go with your gut feeling about who intuitively feels right when choosing a therapist, even if right now might be the hardest time to do so. If something about my practice resonates, please reach out and schedule a consultation! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Living with OCD or anxiety can be exhausting. The constant doubt, intrusive thoughts, avoidance and compulsions can make everyday life feel overwhelming— like it's running your life instead of you. I specialize in helping adults break free from OCD, perfectionism, and anxiety disorders. I understand how isolating these struggles can feel, and I provide a compassionate, collaborative space where you can feel understood while learning practical tools to understand anxiety and move toward what truly matters to you. If you're struggling with OCD, we’ll use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Together we'll build a concrete treatment plan, and with steady support, you’ll gradually face fears, and reduce compulsions, building confidence and learning that you can handle uncertainty without relying on rituals. To address anxiety and perfectionism, I integrate CBT and ACT techniques, so you can develop a healthier mindset and respond to difficult thoughts with more flexibility and self-compassion. Therapy is active and goal-oriented, but always grounded in warmth and respect. I’d love to support you in this process.

Welcome. I'm Andrea Jackson, LICSW, LCSW, PMH-C, a virtual therapist who supports college students and young adults across NY, DC, VA, VT, and UT as they navigate the intense challenges, transitions, and uncertainties that come with this stage of life. College and early career steps can be an exciting time of growth, but they also bring intense pressure, stress, anxiety, loneliness, grief, relationship challenges, and questions about identity. Whether you are struggling to adjust to a new environment, feeling overwhelmed by expectations, or trying to better understand yourself, therapy can provide a space to slow down, reflect, and build practical tools. My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized. I draw from evidence-based practices including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Together, we'll build concrete coping skills, quiet your inner critic, break cycles of perfectionism, and step out of survival mode. My approach is down-to -earth and professional. I believe in the importance of humor and self compassion in our time together. Being transparent in therapy is crucial; meaning I will share with you why I am asking about certain things or suggesting certain ways of coping. You will find I am easy to talk to and respect how important our time together is. I have 23 years of experience in the mental health field working with people's symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression. Much of that time has been specializing in working with college students and people looking to go into helping professions (e.g. nurses, therapists, doctors)
