When things are difficult, it can isolate us, drain our emotional reserves, and limit our ability to look at things in new ways. I work to help clients appreciate the depth of their experience, and support them toward personal strength and healthier relationships. My style is open, collaborative, direct, and supportive. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years in private practice. I also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Rochester's Counseling Center for many years. I bring a range of approaches, but tailor my work to the specific needs of each client. My specialties include issues of loss and trauma, depression, anxiety, medical concerns, life changes, ADHD challenges, LGBTQ+ support, and stressful family or workplace relationships. Many of my clients work in arts-related or other creative fields. I look forward to meeting you!

I'm Dr. Alex, a licensed clinical psychologist offering both in-person sessions in Northport, Long Island, and telehealth for college students anywhere in New York State. I work with students navigating anxiety, depression, the ups and downs of adjusting to college and other transitions, trauma, eating and body image concerns, and self-esteem. College brings a lot of change, and it's normal to need support along the way. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood — so we can work through what's hard and help you feel more like yourself again.
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you're used to handling everything on your own. Whether you're feeling anxious, emotionally drained, stuck in patterns you can't seem to break, or simply not feeling like yourself, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with college students and young adults experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, depression, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, life transitions, relationship challenges, and overwhelming stress. Many of my clients are high achievers who appear to have everything together on the outside while struggling internally with self-doubt, perfectionism, or feeling emotionally exhausted. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. I draw from evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, to help you better understand your thoughts and emotions, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to provide a space where you feel not only heard but truly understood. Together we'll work toward helping you feel more confident, resilient, and connected to the life you want to live.
What could you navigate in a safe space? I will use a warm, compassionate approach as we explore what you might be seeking. Perhaps you long for fulfillment or a clarified sense of purpose. Maybe you feel stuck in patterns that don't serve you. Perhaps you are sad or anxious, grappling with a relationship, or coping with a loss. I believe sorting out your thoughts and feelings together can yield a more enjoyable life. My background is concentrated in medicine and mental health, with a particular attention to the mind-body connection. I tend to work with a lot of college students and enjoy assisting clients with life transitions and identity exploration. My specialties include LGBTQ, gender, life transitions, disabilities, and career options. I earned a BA in psychology and an MSW in social work from Tulane University. I am licensed in Louisiana, MA, and New York. I look forward to hearing from you and beginning our work together.

I am a New York–based Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works with college students and young adults navigating anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm, adjustment concerns, and life transitions. Many of the students I work with are high-achieving and capable, yet feel stuck in their heads, unsure of themselves, or emotionally reactive under pressure. Therapy can be a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and learn how to respond rather than just react. My approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded. I combine insight-oriented therapy with skills-based strategies such as emotion regulation, mindfulness, and anxiety management tools that can be used in real-life situations—academics, relationships, family dynamics, and identity development. I tailor therapy to each student’s individual needs, goals, and pace, with attention to how stress and life experiences impact emotional well-being. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in other high-pressure environments, including Division I collegiate athletics and business settings, which informs my understanding of performance stress, identity shifts, and transition periods. In early sessions, my focus is on getting to know you, helping you feel understood, and offering feedback and tools you can apply outside of sessions. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking for clarity, therapy is a collaborative process, and I look forward to working with you.

I have a Master's in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling and a Master's in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, I taught for five years before joining the mental health profession. My experience as a mental health therapist involves working with clients of all ages, from preschool to adults, as well as with families, and couples. By implementing various interventions and techniques, the client is able to gain insight into their strengths, as well as discover new coping skills. I enjoy working with the client to help them gain insight into themselves, and their family system. I am passionate to be a mental health therapist, and am happy to offer support wherever I can. I strive as a therapist to help guide and support my clients in a safe and non-judgmental environment. I focus on the whole picture of mental health, and take time to separate and process the many Google tabs we tend to keep open. I am neurodivergent and enjoy working with the neurodivergent population.
College life brings challenges—academics, relationships, identity, and navigating your future. For BIPOC and bilingual (Spanish-speaking) students, those challenges can be even more complex. I am here to support you with therapy that honors your story, your culture, and your language. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that provides a safe, judgment-free space where you can speak openly—in English or Spanish—about what matters most to you. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, dealing with anxiety or depression, or just need someone to talk to, I am here to help. I offer: Evidence-based practice that is culturally responsive for BIPOC students. Bilingual (Spanish-English) therapy. Individual counseling tailored to your needs. Safe, confidential, and inclusive care. I utilize treatment approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychotherapy for managing mental health disorders. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT). You deserve to be heard and supported—just as you are. Let’s take the next step, together.
Do you feel paralyzed by the uncertainty of these challenging times? Is it difficult to find the time to slow down and take a breath? Are you often lonely or worried about what other people think of you? If any of these sound like you, then you've come to the right place. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where we can address anxiety, depression, and perfectionism openly through identifying and exploring underlying disappointments, losses, and traumas. Through this process, we’ll work together to rewrite your “story of loss” into a “story of growth.” It is my goal that students will be able to use the safety of our relationship to learn how to approach life’s difficulties with curiosity instead of fear. As a “recovering academic,” I know how hard it can be to balance school, family, friends, and self-care. Central to my work with students is a commitment to antiracist, anti-capitalist practice. In our work together, we’ll examine how systemic factors influence your worldview and the challenges you face. My approach to therapy is focused on providing emotional support, normalizing what you're going through, and finding ways to make more space for yourself. Above all, it is my priority that therapy is a refuge from day-to-day suffering where we can work together to find joy.
Getting help can be frightening. When suffering feels unclear or confusing, having someone to shed light on what you are going through makes a world of a difference. I have had a career of helping many people in tough moments while providing a safe, healing and empathic environment. I continue my beliefs and commitment to providing this to people dealing with trauma, depression and anxiety. It’s important to have someone in kinship to your journey. Find a renewed sense of comfort, wholeness and understanding to your experience. A relational space which allows open dialogue and collaboration over your life situation will bring about positive change and insight into needs, decisions or ambivalences. Common approaches can help someone cope on a moment-to-moment basis. Meanwhile, layers of your experiences and whether significant relationships have met your needs still necessitate insight and healing.

I get that college can be a big life transition and overwhelming at times. I specialize in anxiety and stress and help students who feel stuck in worry, overthinking, panic, or burnout. I can also help with the challenge of new relationships in college and managing old ones as well. I use and teach practical and energetic tools for nervous system regulation so you're not just talking about your stress - you're learning how to manage it in real time. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. College is also a time when questions about sexual orientation and gender identity often become more present. I offer an affirming, supportive space to explore whatever is coming up for you - at your own pace. You don't have to navigate transition alone.
